These are the candidates for #BalticBlueBiotechAlliance Matchmaking Event

The first Baltic Blue Biotechnology Alliance call for ideas has closed and the results are in! In all, we received 20 exciting proposals from across the blue biotechnology spectrum and would like to thank all the candidates for submitting their ideas. All proposals were evaluated by a selection committee of Alliance experts from a range of disciplines and countries. The 11 highest-scoring proposals will pitch their idea to our panel of experts at the #BalticBlueBiotechAlliance Pitching and Matchmaking Event in Helsinki on 26 and 27 October 2016.

The 11 candidates for Alliance Project Partner status are:

  • University of Kiel, University Medical Centre, Dept. Of Ophthalmology from Germany presenting Age-related macular degeneration-specific fucoidan-based dietary supplements (AMD-FDS)
  • Hoekmine BV from the Netherlands presenting Baltic Iridescence - from macroalgal microbiota to new enzymes and optical material 
  • UAB Biome from Lithuania presenting Baltic Sea Mollusc Shells for Bone Tissue Engineering
  • Guldborgsund kommune from Denmark presenting BIOFISK
  • JAMK University of Applied Sciences, Institute of Bioeconomy (BTI) from Finland presenting Closed energy and nutrient cycle in the micro algae cultivation
  • Institute of Marine Biotechnology e.V. from Germany presenting Maresome® for application against chronically infected wounds
  • Power Algae OÜ from Estonia presenting Microalgae-based symbiosis for CO2 sequestration
  • SFTec Oy from Finland presenting ModHeat dryer - affordable and efficient dryer for all needs in Blue Biotechnology
  • Furcella OÜ from Estonia presenting Natural cosmetics with components from red algae
  • Enzymicals AG from Germany presenting Request for technical enzymes from marine Organisms
  • KosterAlg from Sweden presenting KosterAlg

Day 1 of the Helsinki event will give these candidates the chance to pitch their idea and engage in a short Q&A session with our international panel of experts, which will include:

  • Deniz Tasdemir, Professor, GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Reserarch Kiel, Germany
  • Helena Vieira, Executive Director, BLUEBIO ALLIANCE, Portugal

Day 2 of the event will follow with organised matchmaking and informal networking as well as the announcement of the ideas selected as new members of the Baltic Blue Biotechnology Alliance.
