Agenda and more information
Microplastic pollutions is becoming one of the world’s environmental main concerns, threatening human health and biodiversity. The European Commission is tackling this question in several policies, initiatives and supports actions (Green Deal (EGD), Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP), EU Plastics Strategy, the Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters”, etc.). Biodegradable plastics can play a role in reducing the impact of microplastics in the environment, but some challenges should be addressed. In this context, the objective of the workshop is to bring together several “voices” to discuss if and under which conditions biodegradable textiles and coatingscould be a solution to address unintentionally released microplastics along the lifecycle stages of textiles and coatings, with a special focus on the fishing gears and clothing sectors. The workshop will start with a session to frame the problem, the political scene, the business context and the market perspective. Then, there will be three sessions focused on life cycle stages (safe and sustainable by design; purchase and usage; end of life), each of them opened by experts’ pitches to stimulate the following stakeholders’ discussion. |
