SUBMARINER Network at the Global Sustainable Technology & Innovation Conference (G-STIC) in Brussels

On Thursday 21 November an open theme day on the ocean took place at the Global Sustainable Technology & Innovation Conference (G-STIC) in Brussels.  The Oceans theme day, organised by the Blue Cluster, the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) and the Benelux General Secretariat, had an inspiring program based on five themes:
  • Nature based solutions for coastal protection
  • Desalination
  • Clean shipping and alternative fuels
  • Marine Spatial Planning
  • Smart Sea
The day was packed with new ideas and networking opportunities including a semi-plenary session ‘Blue technologies within sustainable ocean resources’ in the morning, parallel ‘deep dive’ sessions in the afternoon and an Industry Night for companies.
SUBMARINER has contributed to the vision document,  Blue technologies for blue sustainability - Ocean and seas: challenges and solutions,  which was developed jointly by the Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Blue Cluster and VLIZ. Ivana Lukic from SUBMARINER Network also had a pleasure to give a speech about the role of maritime spatial planning in supporting the innovative ocean technologies and join the panel discussion during the The Oceans theme day.
