SUBMARINERs contributed the EU Blue Bioeconomy Forum
Last week the first EU stakeholder event of the Blue Bioeconomy Forum took place in Amsterdam. It was the first meeting since the steering group was set up in May 2018.
The Blue Bioeconomy Forum is the EU Commission’s new tool to boost the blue bioeconomy in Europe.
The event was targeting European industries, public agencies, financial organisations, researchers, and civil society working on or interested in the blue bioeconomy of the EU – aquatic and marine environments.
The Baltic region was one of the best represented. SUBMARINER Network promoted the event widely and supported it well, having three members present on the day and providing one project partner from the new GRASS project (macroalgae), namely the Estonian Ministry for Agriculture and the only Ministry present at the event.
From presentations, panel discussions and pitches, the current status of the emerging EU blue bioeconomy was presented. We identified strategic developments, market opportunities, and financing possibilities, and we finally discussed the main challenges obstructing the advancement of the blue bioeconomy, as well as possible ready solutions.
The second event is expected in six months’ time, i.e. summer 2019.
