Pays de Brest Algae Cluster: Supporting the development of the algae industry to increase synergy and boost collaboration
The Algae Cluster was launched in September 2018 by two regional development agencies – Pôle métropolitain du Pays de Brest and Technopôle Brest-Iroise – along with Brest Chamber of Commerce and Industry to accelerate the structural and economic development of the algae industry in Brest.
The region has the potential to be a leader in the development of algae and related active ingredients. The project falls within the overall remit of the Campus mondial de la mer, which encourages networking among all stakeholders, involving them in joint initiatives designed to consolidate a competitive and sustainable algae industry.
The Cluster unites the driving forces behind this industry – processing and production companies, higher education and research institutions, regional bodies and support agencies – in a collective and concerted effort focused on three major challenges:
- To increase R&D and the transfer of scientific knowledge to the industry’s businesses;
- To organise and build the supply industry (enhancing performance and sustainability);
- To develop and promote synergic and cooperative initiatives to stimulate the industry’s growth locally.
