Great success for the first Smart Blue Regions workshop!

The Conference & Brokerage Event "Be Smart, Think Blue" took place on 19-20 September 2016 in Gdańsk. The event was organized by the Maritime Institute in Gdansk in the framework of the Smart Blue Regions project and in cooperation with the Horizon 2020 National Contact Points in the framework of the BioHorizon and ETNA2020 projects.

During the Conference (19th September) the achievements and development trends in "Regional Smart Specialisation" were presented as well as the mechanisms and sources of financing for projects dealing with it. Two project partners of Smart Blue Regions were speakers at the conference. Steffen Lüsse from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Employment, Transport and Technology Schleswig-Holstein - Lead partner of Smart Blue Regions – introduced the project and Peter Askman from Region Skåne presented the first results of the functional review of RIS3 developed by the 6 regions taking part in the project.

The event enjoyed a great interest and focused more than 100 representatives of companies, research institutions and public bodies acting in the maritime sector. On 20th September, bilateral meetings gave participants the opportunity to establish new cooperation and strengthen partnership relations for future research projects in the "Blue Growth" area, among others within the Horizon 2020 program.

This event was the first of a series of international workshops organized under the Smart Blue Regions project. Those workshops are dedicated to initiating new undertakings and supporting effective implementation of the concept of regional smart specializations.
